Dirk De Bruycker

October 12 - November 5, 2011 Boca Raton Gallery

BOCA RATON, Fla.—Rosenbaum Contemporary is celebrating the work of international Contemporary artist Dirk de Bruycker with an exhibition opening on Oct. 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the gallery. The exhibition will run through Nov. 5.

De Bruycker’s luminous, semi-transparent paintings, created by mixing asphalt and gesso with pigments in oil, are inspired by insect wings he found in his Nicaragua studio. The artist, born in Ghent, Belgium, also maintains a studio in Santa Fe, N.M.

“I think some of the intensity and sensuality of Latin America has crept into my work,” he said. “There is a feeling of unease here below the surface that is palpable and yet it is so beautiful here. The force of life here is so strong it permeates everything—you can literally hear things grow. I think it is some of that intensity of life, which is very different from my cooler Northern European sensibilities, that I have allowed to surface in my paintings.”

De Bruycker is a past recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts Visual Arts Fellowship Grant. His work can be found in numerous public and corporate collections in the U.S. and Belgium.

Rosenbaum Contemporary, based in Boca Raton, Fla., is a premiere fine art gallery featuring Postwar, Modern and Contemporary masters.
