"Ron Chen: Particle Paintings" now on view at Rosenbaum Contemporary in Boca Raton

January 12, 2026

BOCA RATON, Fla.— “Ron Chen: Particle Paintings,” is on view through Feb. 14 at Rosenbaum Contemporary’s Boca Raton, Fla., gallery (150 Yamato Road.) The exhibition includes nine oil on wooden panel paintings by artist Ron Chen, who creates ethereal, impressionistic images by layering tiny dots of paint to capture fleeting moments in time.

Chen earned his B.F.A. degree at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, which included an exchange program at the Slade School of Fine Art in London, then earned his M.F.A. degree at The New York Studio School. He developed his dabbing technique of layering oil paint after seeing the pixelation of digital images of Shabbat candles, sent to him every Friday by his mother, while they were still downloading. The resulting paintings explore the intersection of digital imagery, perception and light. However, it is light that Chen views as his main theme, likening his process of layering paint to sculpting light, “because it is light that gives shape to things.”

Chen’s works have been featured in solo and duo shows in Tel Aviv, Bangkok, Miami and London as well as in several group shows in Israel including exhibitions at The Petach Tikva Museum, The Steinhardt Museum, the Rothschild Center and the 8th Biennale for Drawing in Jerusalem. They can also be found in numerous collections worldwide including those of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, E.Sun Bank of Taiwan and the Tony Ressler Collection in Los Angeles.

“Ron Chen: Particle Paintings” can be viewed during regular gallery hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
