"Statue of Liberty" was Robert Rauschenberg's contribution to the "New York, New York: Eight Contemporary Artists Celebrate Their City" portfolio published in 1983 by the New York Graphic Society. To create his work Rauschenberg took photos of the statue from unique points of view such as the sole of Lady Liberty's sandal, her arm and the inside of her torch, layered them with a vintage postcard and an architectural drawing of the statue, then printed them on film to produce the silkscreen.
